The Nathan D. Allsbrooks Foundation, Inc.

“A non-for-profit 501(c)3 organization with the initiative to serve the community from gun violence”

Parents willing to share with youths their formula for success

The Nathan D. Allsbrooks Foundation, Inc. was established by John Nathan Allsbrooks, President and Cherise Smith, Vice President who experienced the devastating lost of their son Nathan D. Allsbrooks through teen gun violence.

On Sunday, June 29, 2008, Nathan Allsbrooks life was cut short by gun violence on the corner of 127th Street and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard, in Harlem.  Nathan was only 15 years old.  Nathan had a dream of becoming an NBA Basketball player.  He obtained his education through the catholic school system, such as attending schools as St. Gregory’s the Great, Holy Name, and Rice High School.  Over the years Nathan developed a love for sports, poetry and computers.  Nathan received several trophies in honor of his basketball skills, which in many ways indicated that he was well on his way to fulfilling his dream.  He was added to the roster of Rice High School’s award-winning basketball team in 2008, and in that same year had the privilege of meeting his favorite basketball player Kobe Bryant at Harlem’s Bowling Lane which inspired him even more.  He was an active member of Greater Refuge Temple church in Harlem, New York.  He also enjoyed writing and reading his poetry.  Nathan had an impact on many lives; he tutored young kids in the neighborhood and served as a co-camp counselor at the W.L. Bonner Youth Enrichment Center and shared whatever he had with friends and family.  His laugh was infectious and his warmth impacted many lives.

The Nathan D. Allsbrooks Foundation began on August 2008 and was created to impact the lives of inner city youth in our communities of the illegal possession and use of guns.

The foundation mission is to develop grassroots outreach initiatives through youth educational and mentoring programs, sports, scholarships, and gun violence prevention.  We are dedicated to saving lives and preventing gun violence by and against inner city youth in our communities.  . After the experience, we the parents decided we wanted to do something to help other families in the community to hopefully prevent similar situations by providing the children with other opportunities.  In addition the purpose of this foundation is an effort to raise awareness of the gun violence that has taken our son’s life along with the many other young men in our communities. We are committed to preventing gun violence in our community through grass root outreach and educational programs.
